Our event inviting young and old to roll up their sleeves, get involved and actively shape the KUNSTFEST

KUNSTFEST WEIMAR provides opportunities for socialising, exchange, art, inspiration and seeing yourself and the world with a critical eye. If you are excited by theatre, dance, art, social justice, climate action, anti-racism and activism, get involved. Young or old, long-established or a new immigrant, with or without a migrant background, LGBTIQ* or cisgender and hetero — everyone is welcome! This year’s programme will be led by London-based director and theatre educator Arne Pohlmeier. He is looking forward to a lively exchange with residents and KUNSTFEST-enthusiasts in and around Weimar! We are offering interactive theatre, activities on tackling climate change, audience discussions, podcasts, youth theatre projects, workshops for school groups, further education events, etc. This year, the workshops revolve around the motto: “Only one thing is important: that is a group of people together creating a climate that allows the recognition of the real problems of life and the courage to tolerate them, to face them, and to grow up a little bit.” (Peter Brook)

WEIMAR OPENS UP! #2

The KUNSTFEST is calling upon Weimar’s residents to get involved and make a piece of art of their own – alone, or with friends, colleagues, family or neighbours. From first July, preparation workshops will be held weekly. This will be a space to find allies, exchange ideas and inspiration, try out creative games and group dynamic exercises, and find support from one another.

FOR SCHOOLS

The KUNSTFEST WEIMAR is coming to visit! It is our pleasure to come around and playfully introduce students and teachers into the world of the KUNSTFEST (or any of its productions).

THE MOBILE EDUCATION WORKSHOP ON THEATERPLATZ

On 4 and 5 September (10 am – 16 pm), Studio Mosaik invites you to experience craftsmanship first hand at a building and play workshop on Theaterplatz. The material used will be wood. We will be building benches and various games. Our motto: Come and join in! Or just come and play with us.

FOCUS ON SUSTAINABILITY

Ideas workshop — We want to develop art, music and performance projects during the summer holidays in collaboration with young people from Weimar and the surrounding area, then present these projects at the KUNSTFEST. A call for participants and precise dates are yet to be announced.

438 DAYS OF THE NSU TRIAL WORKSHOPS

Through various series of workshops and discussions, we will be tackling the topic of processing the NSU trial through theatre. Do you want to participate in the 438 Days of the NSU Trial? Have you always wanted to talk about the trial and discuss what happened with others? Or would you prefer to engage with topics like structural racism? You’ve come to the right place.

»GENERATING GATHERING« — TRAINING PROGRAMME FOR ART MEDIATORS

In a world full of polarisation and increasing division, KUNSTFEST is working to create an open, pluralistic and explicitly anti-racist society, characterised by exchange, dialogue and integration. Five artists with refugee experience will come together as part of the Generating Gathering at KUNSTFEST WEIMAR 2021. All five live in Thuringia, and they will share their experiences, meet other artists, connect with Weimar-based children’s and youth-work initiatives, and develop their own workshops relating to KUNSTFEST projects and their subjects, such as (anti-)racism and sustainability. The results of this collaborative work will be shared around the city as KUNSTFEST WEIMAR continues (in schools, youth clubs, community centres, etc.) in the form of workshops and free interactive activities. This year, Arne Pohlmeier will be the artistic director of the Generating Gathering. The London-based director and theatre educator has a wealth of experience in intercultural theatre and working with people with migrant and refugee backgrounds.
